Crocodile Tears

In mid-December 2022, President Joe Biden said the U.S. “should have societal guilt” for the slow pace of action on restricting access to firearms as he marked the 10th anniversary of the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.
20 students and 6 educators died in the massacre at the Newtown, Connecticut school. Biden was using the anniversary to renew his call for a ban on assault-style weapons like the one used in the Sandy Hook shooting, as well as high-capacity magazines.
“We should have societal guilt for taking too long to deal with this problem,” Biden said in a statement. “We have a moral obligation to pass and enforce laws that can prevent these things from happening again. We owe it to the courageous, young survivors and to the families who lost part of their soul ten years ago to turn their pain into purpose.”
The President was shedding crocodile tears!
Biden was vice president at the time of the Sandy Hook shooting and was tapped by then-President Barack Obama to lead an ill-fated and sham effort to tighten gun laws.[1] In the ten years since the Sandy Hook massacre, mass shootings have only proliferated. Biden and our government have done nothing meaningful or substantive to reduce the number of gun deaths in this country! They talk endlessly, pontificate and shed crocodile tears! Meanwhile, the number of deaths and injuries by gunfire continues to escalate.

FACT: A Lot of gun deaths and injuries occur in these United States simply because so many guns are available!

Keeping a gun out of the hands of people is the best way to prevent gun deaths, i.e., get rid of all these weapons of death and injury!

The uptick in gun violence comes as firearm purchases rose to record levels in 2020 and 2021, with more than 43 million guns estimated to have been purchased during that period. At the same time, the rate of gun deaths in those years hit the highest level since 1995, with more than 45,000 fatalities each year.
The ample access to guns plays a significant role in the upward spiraling number of shooting deaths and woundings experts said.
With an estimated 400 million guns in the country, a figure that eclipses the U.S. population, there is a self-fulfilling prophecy of, “I need a gun because everyone else around me has a gun.”
As I’ve written before[2], the real solution to gun violence in America is: the “repeal of the Second Amendment and the removal of ALL guns from the hands of everyone in this country except for law enforcement and those with an EXTRELY URGENT requirement for the possession of a firearm![3]

And with respect to those supposedly “stricter” gun control laws enacted by Congress and the President after the Uvalde, Texas school shootings, “the words, more and stricter gun control laws! are nothing but Trojan Horses that have been constructed by gun lovers, their supporters, and the politicians that they have bought! Instead, it’s time to hear the words – NO MORE GUNS![4] period.

“Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets . . . Not just because of . . . whichever mass shooting may pop up next, but also not because of those. Don’t sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not. As if this could be known - as if it could be assessed without massively violating civil liberties and stigmatizing the mentally ill. Ban guns! Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns.” (Ref. 4)

     ALL OF THEM!!!

Unless and until America decides once and for all to get rid of every one of the hundreds of millions of firearms that flood this country, the killings and the maimings will continue. Until America comes to its senses and accepts the truth in this statement, there will continue to be a plethora of gun-caused violence in this country. All the platitudes and seemingly good intentions concerning guns are nothing but meaningless words that are intended to placate gun owners and the powerful gun lobby. The fact is that there can be no meaningful gun control – what is ultimately needed is gun elimination. Not even the biblical King Solomon could determine who should have the right to possess a gun or which guns should be allowed and which should be banned. America has reached the point where none but a very few, e.g., members of law enforcement, should be allowed to possess a gun. Until America decides to eliminate all guns in this country, there will continue to be more unnecessary deaths and woundings. Until then, all the tears shed over the victims of gun violence are nothing but crocodile tears!
