Today's American Liberals

Today’s Liberals Believe in Big Government

Today’s Liberal politicians believe that we need more government. They believe that we ordinary citizens cannot make our own decisions, that government must make these decisions for us. Our Liberals tend to support increased regulation in nearly all aspect of our lives.

In December 2010, “President Barack Obama signed into law the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, which (among other things) gives the FDA the power to regulate food served in schools.” (Ref. 1) The president and other liberals don’t feel that local school boards, PTA’s and parents should decide what food to offer our children in school.

Liberal activists don’t believe that parents can decide what’s best for their children. Instead, they look to the government to make parental decisions and tie up the courts with frivolous suits to take these decision-making powers away from parents. In California, a mother “has filed suit against McDonalds for … marketing Happy Meals to kids.” (Ref. 1) What, in heaven’s name prevents this parent from refusing to take her children to McDonalds? Why doesn’t she have the spine to just say no to McDonalds and her children? Why is she attempting to abrogate this parental prerogative and responsibility to the courts and to the government? Why? – because that’s the Liberal agenda: more government; less citizen involvement and responsibility. It’s the Liberal manifesto that they’ve hijacked from the failed socialist and communist movements of the past. In the case of McDonalds’ Happy Meals, the Liberals don’t understand that, “we will never solve the nation’s obesity problem until we usher in a climate of renewed personal responsibility [Emphasis mine].” (Ref. 1) The same can be said for most other items on the Liberals’ agenda. What is needed today is more personal responsibility and less of the nanny-state form of government. We already have too much government regulation in our lives.

Today’s Liberals Believe that Ordinary Americans Can’t Control Their Personal Lives

San Francisco and Berkley in California, along with Cambridge in Massachusetts, are centers of America’s elitist progressive liberalism and are leading proponents of the nanny-state – one in which the more enlightened decide what is good for those among us who are the uneducated and unwashed masses. In San Francisco, the city board of supervisors, over the opposition of the less liberal San Francisco mayor, has banned “all restaurants from serving toys with children’s meals that exceed arbitrary limits on calories, fat, salt, and sugar. … But the bossy City by the Bay continues to assault consumer freedom with bans on everything from plastic bags to pet sales and soda.” (Ref. 2)

Today’s Liberals Believe That Wealth Is Evil

Today’s Liberals see wealth-creation as an evil. Anyone who earns more than the Liberals’ notion of enough must be punished and his excess earnings taken from him and given to the less fortunate, less productive masses. Enough is whatever they decide upon at the moment and for whom it applies. They believe in the Robin Hood credo of Take from the rich and give to the poor. Liberals cannot see beyond their noses and they cannot comprehend the consequences of these actions. They are imbued with the socialist/communist ideal of total equality – no matter, that such equality means that everyone must dumb down to the lowest common denominator in society.

“A donkey can see a pile of hay in front of itself and understand that it has an opportunity to eat. It has no concept of the future implications of its decision to eat the hay, with the exception of the immediate satiety that results.” (Ref. 3) Liberals see life in the same fashion as the donkey. Take from the productive and give to the non-productive – never mind the consequences.

In the same way the donkey reacts to an opportunity to eat, Liberals “react to any opportunity to tax or regulate their fellow citizens with a similar lack of analysis and foresight. They can’t fathom that policies have future consequences. They only care that they want or need more of other people’s money and they want or need it now. Consequences be damned.” (Ref. 3)

Our Liberal politicians and their elitist cohorts simply cannot accept the fact that human beings are smarter than donkeys and “will modify their behavior when the government is permitted to confiscate a greater share of profits, or raise the marginal tax rates on income, or impose a greater regulatory burden or tax on economic transactions.” (Ref. 3) Intelligent, thinking people “will invest less, hire less, work less, and buy less. More precisely, they will do less of these things here {in the U.S.A.} and more of them” (Ref. 3) in countries where there are less confiscatory economic and political policies. Liberals reject the concepts of smaller government, individual liberty, and the merits of the United States Constitution. They are blinded by the apparent short-term benefits of thievery and power.

Today’s Liberals Hate America

American Liberals hate their own country. They wallow in accusing America of every crime committed over the past half millennium. They rail against the genocide carried out against Native Americans; they are apoplectic about the injustices of slavery that ended some 150 years ago; they blame America for every wrong committed in the world over the past half century. In their eyes, America can never do good, and, Americans must pay and pay for every injustice and wrong that is being perpetrated today – even when we Americans are the victims.

America’s Liberals “love some hypothetical, idealized America – one that would redistribute wealth and outlaw gas-guzzling SUVs and celebrate every aspect of ‘multiculturalism’ and tolerate every kind of thought and behavior, except, of course, conservative thought and behavior. But they don’t – God forbid – love the America that we actually live in. Only a simpleton could love that America.” (Ref. 4)

These America Bashing Liberals hold that Americans have “no right at all to feel pride in their country’s history or optimism about its future. … {These} Punitive Liberals {feel} that the purpose of national policy {should be} to punish the nation for its crimes rather than to build a stronger America and a brighter future for all.” (Ref. 5) These America-haters choose to ignore the unprecedented good that America has brought to this planet over the past two centuries.

“The Punitive Liberals will never be satisfied. They will never trust their own country. They will always see America as corrupt and immoral and dishonorable. No matter how much we Americans do today, it will never be enough to make up for the past. …
“Because for {Punitive Liberals}, it is always yesterday.” (Ref. 5)

A poster boy for those Liberals that hate America is Noam Chomsky, an anti-American Liberal intellectual MIT linguistic professor. Chomsky is an elitist intellectual Liberal who “apologizes for the world’s most bloodthirsty dictators and then without blinking, calls the United States ‘a leading terrorist state.’ There are … far too many {liberal} ‘intellectuals’ who think just this way, and you can find them teaching kids at universities all over the country.” (Ref. 6)

To Chomsky and his like-minded Liberals, “America (way) more often than not is wrong, small-minded, petty and venal.” They have “never met an American policy {they} liked.” For them, the Cold War was “all America’s fault: ‘The United States was picking up where the Nazis had left off.’” Got it? To these Liberals, Americans are no better than Nazis! Ask these Liberals about Castro’s executions and prisons filled with dissenters. They slough these facts off as irrelevant, with the excuse that “Cuba has probably been the target of more international terrorism (from the U.S., of course) than any other country.” What about the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia? In 1977, Chomsky said that reports of the genocide were nothing more than “tales of Communist atrocities {based on} unreliable {accounts}”. According to this Liberal university professor, at most, the executions only “numbered in the thousands” rather than the 2 million that actually took place, and were “aggravated by the threat of starvation resulting from American distraction and killing.” Got it? To these Liberals, America is to blame for the Cambodian genocide! Chomsky and the other intellectual Liberals cloistered in their ivy-covered university offices and lecture halls are “always happy to come out against tyranny and brutality – and for {them}, that will always mean first and foremost . . . the United States of America.” (Ref. 6)

Today’s Liberals Are Elitist Snobs

America’s Liberals believe that they are more intelligent than the rest of the American public. They know what needs to be done and how to do it. The rest of the populace are ignorant dolts that must be led around by the nose. It’s the duty of these elitists to decide what to do and to ignore the bleatings of the dumb sheep that comprise the vast majority of the American people. This fact is explained by the now Senior Senator from Massachusetts and former Democratic Party candidate for president of the United States. He stated, “We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or truth or what’s happening.” (Ref. 7) Translation: The American electorate is too ignorant to know what’s going on. It’s up to we Liberal Democrats to lead them in spite of what they may say they want.

Liberals Blame Everyone Except Themselves

Today’s Liberals blame everyone except themselves for all the world’s problems – after all, they have all the right answers. Liberals and their policies are never the cause of a problem – only the solution. The worst offenders in the eyes of the Liberals are Conservatives, Big Business, Wall Street, and Capitalism.

Today, gasoline prices are back up over the $3.00 a gallon level that we saw half a decade ago. My Liberal friends are quick to blame big business for these rising prices and are again screaming about the obscene profits of Big Oil, just as they did some 4 years ago. Do you remember the Liberals in Congress grandstanding before the TV cameras and lambasting the CEO’s of Big Oil for robbing the American people? Never mind the fact that, at that time, Big Oil’s profits were completely in line with the profit margins of the Fortune 500 companies. Back then, the profit of the 3 largest oil companies was about 9% of revenue while the profit of the Fortune 500 companies was 6.7% of revenue on average.

Today as then, the large earnings make good fodder for Liberals and politicians eager to play the class warfare card. There are many Liberals who are eager to take something from a company just because they can or they want to. Companies, like those in Big Oil, put forth the effort and take the risk. They are entitled to earn the rewards. It’s easy to take something from someone, it’s harder to go and earn it yourself. In 2007, the largest Big Oil company, Exxon-Mobile, earned $40.6 billion on sales of $404 Billion.

Company           Profit ($ billions)         Profit Margin (%)
     Exxon-Mobil               36                              11
     Citigroup                      25                              21
     Bank of America         17                               19
     General Electric           16                               11
     Microsoft                    13                              32
     Johnson & Johnson    10                              21

If we were going to take away obscene profits, why didn’t the Liberals opt to take away the large profits of Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Citigroup, and Citigroup? In return for its 9 or 10% profit margin, Exxon-Mobile makes large and risky investments to find and develop energy resources — more than $80 billion between 2002 and 2006. From 2005 through 2009, Exxon-Mobile’s profits are: 2005 – 10%; 2006 – 11 %; 2007 – 11%; 2008 – 10%; 2009 – 6%. By any rational measure these profits are anything but obscene. But Liberals are not rational – they need to blame the objects of their hatred, and Big Oil is certainly one of their targets.

“POLITICIANS, ESPECIALLY {LIBERAL} DEMOCRATS, love to beat up on Big Oil these days. Company executives are routinely caricatured as price-manipulating, environment-hating villains who are enriching themselves obscenely at the country’s and the world’s expense.
“Washington’s responses have been bizarre, almost comic. Meaningful measures are left undone or substantially watered down. And most of the measures actually taken will do little good, if not outright harm.” (Ref. 8)

In spite of the continuing overdependence on imported foreign oil, our Liberal establishment is blocking exploration in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic coast because of the BP drilling rig disaster. This is in spite of over a half century of safe exploration and drilling with only the BP spill as a black mark. Instead of learning from the BP spill, moving forward and improving the safety procedures, President Obama … banned exploration and drilling. Our Liberals would rather pummel Big Oil than face up to the fact that, in spite of rising fuel prices, full-size SUVs are increasing in popularity once again. In 2010, full-size SUV sales increased 19%, beating overall industry growth of 17%. (Ref. 9) Liberals would rather continue to blame everyone but themselves for rising gasoline prices rather than support the meaningful actions necessary to keep these prices down, or to even consider that high energy prices may be necessary to control the import of foreign oil or to control atmospheric pollution. They won’t admit that they, we, and our Liberal Democratic President may be among the real sources of the problem.

Liberals Are Blinded By Hate

Liberals are blinded by hate. Their hatred of President George W. Bush is a prime example of their hatred of anything foreign to their philosophy and objectives. A 2005 U.S. News & World Report column reported that a blog of one Democratic consultant “seethes with hatred of Bush, constantly attacks Republicans and excoriates Democrats who don’t oppose Bush root and branch.” In addition, “Democratic Internet constituency was and is motivated by one thing more than anything else; hatred of George W. Bush.” (Ref. 10) Furthermore, a lot of the blog readers “actively root for bad news – whether it’s in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or here at home with the economy. … They are pessimistic, defeatist, and way too often, nasty. And in their bitterness, they’re for anything that makes George W. Bush look bad.” (Ref. 10) It can be said that “Once upon a time, liberals were the optimistic ones. They were the hopeful ones. They were the upbeat ones. Now, too often, too many of them see darkness wherever they look. Nothing can go right, as far as they’re concerned, as long as George Bush {was} around.” (Ref. 11) After Kerry’s defeat to Bush in 2004, these hatred-filled liberals hoped and prayed that Iraq would descend into civil war, that Iran would blow up in Bush’s face, that North Korea would launch a nuclear attack on Hawaii, that the stock market would crash or there would be an outbreak of the plague in Kansas. All of this was certainly true when George W. Bush was president, but even now, after he has left the presidency, these mean-spirited Liberals carry forward their hatred of him. For them, everything bad today was and continues to be George W. Bush’s fault.

Today’s Liberals Are Forcing Political Correctness Down Our Throats

Politically correct restrictions on what we can say and how we say it have been forced down the throats of the American public by liberals to restrict debate and silence opposition. Political correctness “... is the communal tyranny that erupted in the 1980s. It was a spontaneous declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behavior, which were then legal, should be forbidden by law, and people who transgressed should be punished. It started with a few voices but grew in popularity until it became unwritten and written law within the community, with those who were publicly declared as being not politically correct becoming the object of persecution by the mob, if not prosecution by the state.
“The modern politically correct movement began at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; one of the most liberal institutions in the United States and is often viewed as a liberalist degrading of the freedom of speech. George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four famously incorporated the notion of limiting thought through language.” (Ref. 12)

“The comprehensive and detailed control of all ideas, beliefs, and statements is one of the most problematic features of totalitarian regimes {and is a feature of political correctness}.
“Political correctness can trace its origins back to the world of 1920's Germany, where Communist academics sought to impose their Marxist views on students. It is now acceptable in many Universities to have courses on gender, homosexual and African American studies, which, in fact, encourage the mainstream public to become different to avoid criticism.” (Ref. 12)

“Political Correctness remains just what it was intended to be: a sophisticated and dangerous form of censorship and oppression, imposed upon the citizenry with the ultimate goal of manipulating, brainwashing and destroying our society.” (Ref. 13)

“The scourge of Political Correctness has taken hold in the U.S. It is very well entrenched in our educational system, at scientific, religious and community levels, the media, the workplace and even our government.
“It is changing the American society from within, and the citizens of this nation are increasingly censoring themselves and losing their freedom of speech out of fear of Political Correctness repression.
“It is the nature of Western Civilization to be civilized – respectful of others and concerned with correcting injustices. We don't need Political Correctness to make us think we are not civilized on our own and must have our thoughts and words restricted.” Ref. 13)

“We see shameful situations created in our schools and universities in America that have fallen prey to Political Correctness. Some professors, students and publications are being attacked for expressing a point of view that differs from that imposed by a fanatical {liberal} far left, under the guise of Political Correctness.
“In schools and workplaces we see that ‘diversity’ has degenerated into reverse discrimination, where often the less qualified are admitted and the incompetent cannot be fired.” (Ref. 13)

“It's one thing to be educated, considerate, polite and have good manners, and another to be forced to self-censor and say things that are totally incorrect in order to comply with the arbitrary dictums of a deceiving and fanatical far-left {liberal} agenda.” (Ref. 13)

It’s instructive to note that political correctness originated in and was a principal tool of both the Communists and the Nazis. Remember, that in spite of everything else that they became, the Nazis and the Communists were both socialists. Many of us would argue that our American liberals are nothing, if not socialists - usually closet socialists. Political Correctness “was developed at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, Germany, which was founded in 1923 and came to be known as the ‘Frankfurt School.’ It was a group of thinkers who pulled together to find a solution to the biggest problem facing the implementers of communism in Russia.” (Ref. 13)

At that time, Communism wasn’t spreading because Western Civilization was in its way. Western civilization held the belief that an individual could develop valid ideas. Communism believed that all valid ideas come from the social group of the masses. The individual was nothing. The liberal thinkers of the time believed that the only way for communism to advance was to help (or force, if necessary) Western Civilization to destroy itself by chipping away at the rights of individuals. One way to accomplish this was to change the speech and thought patterns of individuals by spreading the idea that vocalizing your beliefs is disrespectful to others and must be avoided to make up for past inequities and injustices, i.e., the basis of political correctness. Today, political correctness remains just what it was intended to be: a form of censorship and oppression, imposed upon the citizenry with the ultimate goal of manipulating, brainwashing and destroying our non-socialistic society. Political correctness is an attempt to force uniformity upon the masses and to destroy all trace of the individualism that made America into the great nation that it has become.
