Palestinian Peace

For several years, the blind, the brain-dead, and the willing dupes of the “Palestinian” leadership have promoted the concept of a two-state “peace” agreement between Israel and the “Palestinians”. What these useful idiots have failed to understand or chosen to ignore is the fact that “peace” to the “Palestinian” leadership has a very different meaning than what it is understood to mean to all rational people. To these “Palestinian” leaders, “peace” with Israel means the “peace of the grave”, i.e., the elimination of the “Zionist entity”! To achieve this end, these “Palestinian” leaders follow the advice of their prophet, Mohammed, that lying to achieve their end is not only allowed, but is encouraged or required. So, while there have been times when “Palestinian” leaders like Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas have said they want to reach a peace agreement with Israel, such has never been their real intention. They have simply been lying in order to attain their real goal, while confusing and misleading the world. In this, they have been highly successful.

Now, as reality sinks in - Jerusalem becoming accepted as the capital of Israel, the annexation by Israel of the land in the West Bank that has been home to thousands of Jews, and Arab nations abandoning their formerly absolute support of the “Palestinians” - the “Palestinian” leadership has taken a hissy-fit and now won’t even allow the concept of a “peace” with Israel to even be mentioned. Khaled Abu Toameh has reported on what happens to someone who dares to talk about meeting with Israel to discuss the possibility of reaching a “peace” agreement.

Khaled Abu Toameh is an Israeli Arab journalist, lecturer and documentary filmmaker. He writes for The Jerusalem Post and for the New York-based Gatestone Institute, where he is a senior distinguished fellow. He is a producer and consultant for NBC News since 1989. The relevant parts of Toameh’s report follow below.

"Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riad Malki seems to have committed a ‘crime.’ He said that the Palestinians are prepared to hold a meeting with Israelis! . . .
      - - -
“The Palestinian leadership, since 2014, has been boycotting peace talks with Israel. Since 2017, the Palestinian leadership has also been boycotting the US administration in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“Abbas, on May 19, announced his decision to renounce all agreements and understandings with Israel and the US, including security cooperation. As far as the Palestinian leadership is concerned, Israel and the US administration are now the main enemies of the Palestinians. It is prohibited to talk to any Israeli or US official. It has also become taboo for any Palestinian to talk about holding meetings with Israeli or US officials.
“Malki’s statements have therefore sparked widespread anger among Palestinians . . .
“Notably, those who are now condemning Malki are not only from extremist groups opposed to any peace process with Israel, but also from Abbas’s own ruling Fatah faction. This is the same Fatah that is regularly referred to in the international media as the ‘moderate’ faction of the Palestinians.
“Founded in 1959, Fatah is the full name of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement. In 1967, Fatah joined the PLO, which signed the Oslo Accord with Israel in 1993, ostensibly to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by means of territorial concessions.
     “At the time, then PLO leader Yasser Arafat sent a letter to then Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin claiming that the PLO was willing to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist, commit to finding a peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and relinquish all forms of terrorism {- as history has shown, these were all lies, meant for the benefit of the useful idiots of the world.}
“Twenty-seven years later, the leaders of Fatah evidently believe that conducting negotiations with Israel is a ‘crime’ and that Palestinians who still believe in a peace process with Israelis at the very least need to be removed from their jobs. [Emphasis mine]
“Responding to Malki’s statements, senior Fatah official Tawfik Tirawi issued a stern warning to the Palestinian foreign minister and accused him of acting in violation of the Palestinian ‘national consensus.’ . . .
    - - -
“Because of Tirawi’s background and senior position in Fatah, his attack on the Palestinian foreign minister carries weight. . .
“It is also notable that in the wake of Tirawi’s attack on Malki, no Fatah leader has come out in Malki’s defense. Fatah’s silence, in fact, can be seen as an endorsement of Tirawi’s call for dismissing a Palestinian official who expresses readiness to hold meetings with Israelis.
“Tirawi’s attack on Malki, meanwhile, has been welcomed by several Palestinian groups that reject Israel’s right to exist, including the Iranian-funded Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
    - - -
“The PLO’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) called for firing Malki and holding him accountable for his readiness to resume peace talks with Israel. ‘. . .
“Another PLO group, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP), called on Malki to ‘stop your political heresy and abide by the decisions of the legislative bodies of the [PLO] National and Central Councils.’ These decisions advocate cutting off all relations with Israel, including security cooperation between the Palestinian security forces and the IDF in the West Bank. . .
“Not surprisingly, Malki, because of his apparent readiness to conduct a dialogue with Israel, is also facing a campaign of incitement on various social media platforms.
“The attacks on Malki are hardly a surprise, given growing anti-Israel and anti-US sentiments among Palestinians.
“This hostility is the direct result of the Palestinian leadership’s continued incitement and fiery rhetoric against Israel and the US. Day in and day out, Palestinian leaders drill into the minds of their people that Israel rejects peace and is committing ‘war crimes’ against Palestinians. [Emphasis mine]
“The same leaders insist with deadly deliberation that the US administration and Trump are ‘biased’ in favor Israel and hate the Palestinians. When you radicalize your people against Israel and the US in such a way, how can you expect Palestinian leaders not to veto meeting with Israelis?
“Under the current circumstances, it is impossible to talk about the resumption of a peace process between Israel and the Palestinians: as Malki learned the hard way, even as much as a word about negotiations from the mouth of a Palestinian leader sounds — at the very least — the death knell of his career.
“Moreover, as Malki is also under attack also from ‘moderates,’” one can only ask what ‘non-moderates’ could have in store for the besieged foreign minister — or for any leader who might dare to return to a negotiating table with Israel?” (Ref. 1)

To the southwest of the Abbas controlled “West Bank”, the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip continues to wallow in deeper and deeper misery brought on by Hamas’ ongoing attacks on Israel’s civilian population. There was once the hope that the “West Bank” and the Gaza Strip could be politically united to form a Palestinian state that would peacefully coexist with the State of Israel – the mythical “two-state solution”. That hope has clearly been exposed to all but the totally blind as a fantasy. Not only will Abbas ever agree to a real peace with Israel, but there will also never be any peace between Abbas’ “West Bank” and the Hamas controlled Gaza Strip. Abbas and Hamas are at each other’s throats – not even their common hatred of Israel can unite them!

“As Gaza’s plight worsens, Palestinian leader continues to tighten the screws on the coastal enclave’s residents.
“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed the embattled and ailing Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas for thwarting a series of internationally backed initiatives to rehabilitate the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip and refusing to accept ‘UN attempts to ease the plight’ of the coastal enclave’s residents.
“Abbas instead has implemented a variety of crippling sanctions on Gaza to pressure Hamas to relinquish control of the strip, which the terror group has ruled since it ran Abbas’ Fatah faction out of Gaza in a bloody coup in 2007.
      - - -
“Abbas {took} a series of measures against the territory, slashing the salaries of thousands of former government workers in Gaza and cutting fuel subsidies to pay for electricity, all in an effort to step up pressure on Hamas.
“These measures, combined with the decade-long blockade, have sent Gaza’s economy into free-fall. The increasingly desperate Hamas has stepped up mass violent rioting along the Israeli border and airborne arson attacks, scorching thousands of acres of Israeli farmland and nature preserves.” (Ref. 2) A major reason for the Hamas attacks on Israel? An attempt to divert the attention of the residents of Gaza away from the misery and destitution imposed upon them by Hamas!
"Two senior Palestinian officials confirmed that Abbas was working behind the scenes to scuttle U.N. and Egyptian attempts to forge a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas or to carry out large infrastructure projects that would bring relief to Gaza’s beleaguered population. Not only has abbas been responsible for inciting terrorist attacks against Israel and Israelis, but he has been working to continue the wretched misery of the Gazan masses who are supposedly his Islamic brethren.
“As the officially recognized Palestinian representative, Abbas’ government continues to coordinate the movement of goods through Israeli-controlled crossings into Gaza. This has given him the ability to block large-scale projects, even when approved by Israel.
      - - -
“The Gaza conundrum is just the latest obstacle for the U.S. peace plan. The Palestinians cut off ties with the White House after Trump recognized as Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, and moved the U.S. Embassy there.” (Ref. 2)

The United States and Israel have both decided that the time has come to put an end to 50+ years of lies, terrorist attacks, and the “Palestinian” leadership dream of destroying Israel and “eliminating” the Jewish presence in the mid-east. Following its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the United States has proposed the “Deal of the Century” which provides the “Palestinians” with a state of their own. Israel, on the other hand, is moving to end the endless stalemate by unilaterally annexing the regions in Judea and Samaria that are largely populated with Israelis.

After 50+ years of PA/Hamas lies, unfulfilled promises, martyrdom, and the promise of destroying Israel and “eliminating” the Jewish presence in the mid-east, coupled with Israeli reprisals and restrictions stemming from the ever-present PA/Hamas instigated terrorist threat, there appears to be a widening gap between those on the “Palestinian street” and the PA/Hamas leadership.

“There may be a huge gap between the opinions of Palestinian Authority (PA) officials and PA residents concerning Israel’s sovereignty plans, Channel 13’s Arab affairs commentator . . . reported . . .
“[He} interviewed several Arab residents of Judea and Samaria about their opinions on Israel applying sovereignty over portions of the territories. Some were interviewed openly, while other interviews were documented with hidden camera glasses.
“ ‘It is a million times better for Israel to be responsible for the entire territory. We’re ready to live under Israel’s military boots rather than under the head of Abu Mazen [Mahmoud Abbas],’ one person said.
“ ‘What has the PA done for us?’ one businessman asked. ‘I don’t want a state. I want money. Money is preferable to a state. The entire Palestinian people wants this. What does it want? It doesn’t want the PA. The PA robbed us and destroyed us.’
“When asked why Palestinians always say they want a state, resistance, and intifada, the businessman replied, ‘Our government is looking for it. We want money.’
“{The commentator} asked another man who would win if an election was held in PA-controlled areas between Abbas and Bibi Netanyahu. ‘Bibi,’ the man responded without hesitation.
“ ‘In Israel there’s law and order. Life is good,’ said a PA policeman, adding that in the PA ‘all the money goes to Abu Mazen, to the PA, to those leaders.’
“ ‘I prefer Israeli sovereignty, a hundred percent,’ he said.
“. . . also . . . when the United States moved the embassy to Jerusalem, the PA promised a wave of violence, but the public mainly chose not to take to the streets. . . on the issue of annexation, the gap between PA leadership and the people may be even wider.” (Ref. 3)

In another continuing suicidal act, the “Palestinian Authority . . . refused to accept tax revenues for the month of May {2020} collected on its behalf by Israel, as part of what it says is its end of cooperation with the Jewish state [Emphasis mine] over Jerusalem’s plan to extend Israeli law to parts of Judea and Samaria.
“. . . the spokesman for the Palestinian Authority, said in a statement that the P.A. had rejected the taxes ‘in compliance with the leadership decision to stop all forms of coordination with Israel,’ . . . Under the Oslo agreements, Israel collects taxes on behalf of the P.A. that make up over half the P.A. government {revenues}.
“The Palestinian Authority will have difficulty functioning without the $190 million in monthly tax revenue.
“P.A. leader Mahmoud Abbas threatened last month to cut ties with Israel, stop security cooperation and void past agreements if Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues with his plan to apply Israeli law in Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley.
“However, former senior U.S. officials have {said} that the PA is bluffing.
“ ‘The P.A. is entirely dependent on its cooperation with Israel to survive. We saw how long the P.A. lasted in Gaza before Hamas took over,’ . . .
“. . . Abbas’s threat to cut off security cooperation and end agreements with Israel is empty since it is in Abbas’s and other senior Palestinian Authority officials’ interest to continue the cooperation.
“ ‘History shows us that this is almost assuredly just bluster’ . . . Abbas’s rhetoric {is just one more example of the} ‘hold me back or I’ll commit suicide strategy.’ (Ref. 4) As usual, Israel’s enemies are shedding crocodile tears for Abbas and the PA and castigating Israel for not kowtowing to all the demands of Abbas.

As nearly all “Palestinian”-Arabs and Israeli-Arabs acknowledge, Except for those Arabs living in Israel, Arabs living in the middle east have little hope for being governed by leaders who believe in democracy and care for their people. When push comes to shove, who will the “Palestinian” street follow - their tyrannical leaders or their own best interests?

In hindsight, there has never been a chance of there being a realistic two-state solution to the Israeli-“Palestinian” problem. Oslo was a sham. Arafat lied, stalled and ultimately walked away from a deal that would have greatly benefitted the “Palestinian” people. The same can be said of Abbas. Arafat, Abbas, the Palestinian Authority (PA) leaders and Hamas have never even remotely considered a valid deal with Israel. After more than 50 years of leading the peacenik suckers of the world on a wild goose chase, the true objective of the “Palestinian” leadership is being exposed to all but the blind and those who have the same objectives as the “Palestinian” leadership – and that objective has always been, is today, and always will be the elimination of “the Zionist entity”, i.e., the destruction of the State of Israel.

“With the breakdown in relations between the United States and Mahmoud Abbas, the leader of the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), Abbas has taken a hissy-fit and shown his true colors to the world. Abbas is and always been an anti-Semite. ‘His doctoral dissertation, which he later published as a book, is a Holocaust denying screed.
“Abbas engages in antisemitic incitement on a daily basis, both directly and indirectly. It was Abbas who called for his people to kill Jews claiming that {they} pollute Judaism’s most sacred site, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, with {their} ‘filthy feet.’ The Palestinian media and school system which he controls with an iron fist both regularly portray Jews as evil monsters, deserving of physical annihilation.
“Abbas’s PLO and his Palestinian Authority engage as a general practice in glorifying terrorist murderers. As has been widely reported . . . , his PA and PLO also incentivize and underwrite terrorism to the tune of $300 million a year, which is paid, in accordance with PA law, to convicted terrorists sitting in Israeli prisons and their families.
“And that’s just the money we know about.
      - - -
“. . . Abbas himself has proven, repeatedly, that he will never support a peace deal with Israel. [Emphasis mine] Abbas opposed Israel’s peace offer at Camp David in 2000. He rejected then-prime minister Ehud Olmert’s peace offer in 2008. He rejected then-president Barack Obama’s peace offer in 2013. Since then, Abbas made no sign of moderating his position.
“{In truth, any deal that Abbas} would accept, would endanger Israel’s very existence. So in the unlikely event that he reaches ‘the deal,’ his achievement will imperil Israel, rather than protect it.
      - - -
“Hamas’s {2017) policy document departs not one iota from the Muslim Brotherhood group’s devotion to the goal of destroying Israel.
“In adopting its new document, which calls for Israel to withdraw, first and foremost, from Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem, Hamas has adopted the PLO’s wildly successful strategy of engaging in a dual campaign against Israel, waging terrorist war against Israel on the one hand while winning the support of the West on the other.
“Hamas’s document is a restatement of the PLO’s 1974 phased plan for destroying Israel.
“The PLO’s plan – which it continues to implement today – involves accepting limited territorial gains from Israel. The territory that Israel cedes in each phase will not become a Palestinian state. Rather it will serve as a launching ground for a new war against Israel. [emphasis mine]
“Under the phased plan, the PLO adopted the ruse that it is interested in territorial compromise with Israel, in order to advance its actual goal of destroying Israel piece by piece.
      - - -
“Just as the Hamas document neither contradicts nor abrogates its genocidal pledge to eradicate Israel boldly asserted in its covenant, so the PLO’s phased plan and its subsequent embrace of the ‘peace process’ neither contradicted nor superseded its founding charter that calls for Israel’s destruction.
“PLO leaders simply stopped discussing their founding documents in their dealings with gullible Westerners keen to win peace prizes.” (Ref. 5)

“When Mahmoud Abbas succeeded {Yasir} Arafat, there was some hope that, despite his long association with his predecessor and a doctoral dissertation that smacked of Holocaust denial, he might offer a more promising approach to peacemaking. This was buttressed when Salam Fayyad, widely considered a political moderate and voice of pragmatism, became the Palestinian prime minister.
“Regrettably, however, Abbas has proved a disappointment, especially when he walked away from a trailblazing two-state offer by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in 2008. The Israeli proposal went even further than Barak’s in 2000-1, as Palestinian spokesmen acknowledged as recently as the fall of 2015. And so, yet another chance for peace, based on two states, was lost.” (Ref. 6)

Islam is often called the religion of peace and tolerance. Unfortunately, many adherents of the religion behave in a fashion that is inimical to these concepts. Also unfortunate is the failure of more moderate and liberal Muslims to come forward to rescue their religion from the fanatics that have co-opted their religion and given Islam such a bad name in the non-Muslim world. The “Palestinian” leaders from the days of Yasser Arafat – and even before – have all harbored that streak of extremist Islam that makes agreeing to a “peace” with them extremely unlikely and more likely impossible. Until moderate and liberal Muslims gain control, we in the non-Muslim world cannot trust the extremists nor put any faith in their claim that the “Palestinian” leaders are really seeking peace with Israel.

The recent signing of peace agreements between Israel and The United Arab Emirate and Bahrain clearly demonstrates that many Arabs have become fed up with the long standing intransigence of the “Palestinian” obstructionists. The following is abstracted from a particularly cohesive account of Arab/Muslim rejection of the “Palestinian’s” decades-long charade of claiming to want to achieve peace with Israel. Much of the Arab/Muslim world has now abandoned the “Palestinian” cause. The “Palestinian” leadership has yet to accept this fact and to face reality.

“The harsh Palestinian reactions to the Aug. 13 announcement of the United Arab Emirates and Israel normalization agreement have drawn criticism in the Arab press, particularly in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt.
“The Palestinian Authority, headed by Mahmoud Abbas, accused the UAE of betraying the Palestinians and their cause, as well as Jerusalem and al-Aqsa, of “aggression towards the Palestinian people,” of stabbing the Palestinians and the Arab and Islamic nation in the back with a “poisoned dagger” and of making concessions to Israel for nothing in return. PA leaders called the UAE’s move unacceptable and an act of deception, accusing the UAE of abandoning the Arab Peace Initiative and capitulating and groveling to the United States. . .
“The condemnations reached a peak during a Sept. 3 conference of Palestinian faction leaders that included representatives of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad alongside representatives of Fatah and other factions. . .
“In response, daily newspapers in many Arab countries have published dozens of articles expressing support for the UAE’s decision and condemning the Palestinians, especially their ‘ungrateful’ leadership. Many writers claim that this leadership has exploited the Palestinian cause for seven decades to extort funds from the Gulf states. Some even accused Palestinian officials of taking the money for themselves and of deliberately rejecting every peace initiative in order to perpetuate the situation and remain in power. . .
      - - -
“In {the} Sept. 2 column in the Saudi daily ‘Okaz . . .
“ ‘The situation of our Palestinian brothers is regrettable. For over 60 years, their politicians have cashed in on their cause, and persisted in not reaching an arrangement, in destroying the negotiations, and in opposing every peace initiative, whether proposed by the Israelis or by the other international elements. The Palestinian politician has inflicted this on his cause and his people in order to profit from leaving things as they are, since the way he has chosen for decades was the only way to guarantee that he would remain in the picture and [benefit from the] influx of funds, donations and aid flowing from all directions, particularly from the Arab and Islamic world, into his coffers and his European bank accounts.
“ ‘Today, the situation is different, because the peoples who once identified with the Palestinian cause are completely aware of this manipulation and the way it is done. This means the death of the Palestinian cause in the hearts of millions, because this is the natural outcome of six decades of lies and deception and collection of funds on behalf of a crisis whose owners have no interest in resolving it.
“ ‘A few days ago came the UAE’s bold move—normalization with Israel—to tell the Palestinian political leaders: ‘The time has come to deal with yourselves and with those who have been defrauded by you. The time for the games, hypocrisy, and the trading in the distress of the Palestinian people has passed, because the interest of the Arab people in Gaza and the West Bank demands intervention by the sane Arabs in order to negotiate with the Israeli side and act to bring comprehensive peace to the region, far from the gangs that derive political profit.’ “ (Ref. 7)

Those nations that have been making noise about not recognizing Israel’s impending annexation of portions of the West Bank and who have been threatening Israel with sanctions are once more demonstrating their stupidity and/or their latent hatred of Jews and the Jewish State. They will not succeed in perpetuating the Hamas/PA dream of destroying Israel and driving the Jewish people from their historical homeland. True “Palestinian”-Israeli peace will only come after the current extremist “Palestinian” leaders are removed and replaced with true moderates. True peace is only possible after the current generation of the residents of the West Bank and Gaza are gone and a new generation that that has not been brain-washed into hating Israel is born. Only then is it possible for true peace to come to the region. All else is fantasy.
